BN- UPDATE 8.20PM : Two men are in hospital and police are searching for a third after a car being pursued by a group of bikies crashed i...
Sergeant Steve Rainey said the bikies, who were wearing the colours of outlaw motorcycle gang Satan’s Soldiers, told police the car had knocked one of their gang from his motorcycle before the crash.
It is believed the bikies then began to pursue the white Holden Nova, which displayed green P-plates. The driver then lost control and smashed into a tree in front of the university’s accommodation.
One of the passengers fled the scene. A crowd of students watched as State Emergency Service crews cut the driver of the vehicle from the wreckage. He and another passenger were taken to hospital.
Sergeant Rainey said it appeared the men in the car had no affiliation with the university.
A student provided a photograph of the man who fled the scene to police.
Sergeant Rainey said the men in the vehicle were known to police and were wanted on criminal matters. He said police had received several calls about the car driving erratically that day.
Crime Scene Unit officers examined the car, which displayed false number plates. The plates were removed from the car by officers.
The officers also took two hammers from the car which were placed in evidence bags. A brownish-red substance was visible on one of the hammers.
Several mobile phones and a set of keys were also taken from the car by police.
