BN -- A BIKER who had not had his hair cut in 36 years has finally gone for the chop – all in aid of a cancer charity for children.

Mark Capewell, 48, of St Mark's Road, Horninglow, explained that he last had a trim at the age of 12. He said he had grown it long ever since to fit in with the image of being a motorcyclist.

However, he said that one of the nurses on the cancer ward at Burton's Queen's Hospital, where he works, suggested that if he ever wanted to have it cut, he could donate his locks to the Little Princess Trust.

He said: "I had been deciding whether to have my hair cut off or not, but I didn't want it to just be cut off and put in the bin.

"I was up in the day centre for children going through chemotherapy and one of the nurses said why don't you donate it to the Little Princess Trust?"

Mark therefore had his hair cut at Glyn's Barbers, in Derby Street, Burton.

Despite being surrounded by his friends and family for support, Mark said that he was upset he no longer has his long hair.

He also explained that it does not fit the image anymore of him on his Suzuki GSX 1100.

The hair he has donated has now been posted to the Little Princess Trust which will create real hair wigs from it.

These will then be given to children who have lost their own hair through cancer treatment.

He said: "It's like cutting an arm or hand off. I'm a biker and a rocker and I like head-banging, but I can't do it anymore as I no longer have my hair.

"It is a bit sad that it has just gone but I am glad it is going to little kids who have cancer and may not fully understand why they have lost their hair. I hope it will make some little girl or boy happy. Now I've done my charity bit I'm going to grow it back – it's just not me this short."

Mark has also raised £1,000 for the charity through sponsorship which will continue to help the charity. Anyone who would like to donate can do so by visiting www.littleprincesses.org.uk
