The American Veterans Motorcycle Club is an organization founded in the 1980s in California, uniting veterans as a group of people who enjoy the freedom to ride and exercise the freedom of choice that they all served to protect. Among the “Band of Brothers,” as they refer to themselves, all have proudly served, or are still actively serving, in-country or abroad, in all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces.
Currently the local American Veterans Motorcycle Club is working to raise funds for the Lawton VA Home. The funds will be used to purchase items that the vets need in the home such as the replacement of a broken TV, clothing and hygiene items. Funds are also being raised to help with travel needs for when the vets may have the opportunity to go places outside of the VA Home.
“We wish to serve the veterans that came before us, and sacrificed themselves so that we could serve when we did,” said said Roy Carter, aka DevilDog, member of the American Veterans MC. “Without the vets that laid the foundation, there wouldn’t have been an armed forces for us to serve in, or our magnificent country to serve for. We help them in any capacity available to us.” .
Supporting veterans is a cause very close to Carter who had a grandfather, whom he is named after, that fought and served nearly 50 years prior to Cart enlisting in 2003.
“I don’t have any memories of him not in his recliner when we would visit,” said Carter, “because he couldn’t walk. He had no legs from the knees down. There was no one to take care of him outside of his immediate family, because his government asked him to serve and sacrifice then left him on his own.”

After serving in two wars, losing over 50 men and hundreds wounded during his four years of active service in the United States Marine Corp, Carter says he sees history repeating itself. He sees the same thing his grandfather went through, and the same thing that his brothers in arms are suffering through now.
“As vets we suffer from our own kind of demons that 95% of the civilian population simply cannot comprehend nor wishes to deal with,” expressed Carter.
Carter goes on to express that having that understanding better enables fellow vets to help one another in their daily lives. The American Veterans Motorcycle Club gives them an organization that can efficiently serve the veteran community.
“This allows us to do for others what our government bureaucracy has been an abysmal failure at doing,” said Carter.
The group as a whole is passionate about their service and commitment to their fellow vets.
On Saturday, Aug. 29, the club will be having lunch with the veterans from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at 501 SE Flower Mound Road in Lawton. The price for lunch is reasonable, and nothing is required to attend. Donations will be accepted and can be given to any member of the American Veterans MC present. All donations will go directly to the funds for the residents of the VA Home.
“Everyone is encouraged to attend, from the general public to all motorcycle enthusiasts who wish to help a good cause and support the veterans in our local community,” said Carter.
There will be a raffle ticket drawing for the Club’s custom built motorcycle (in the picture) at 2 p.m. on the same day. The winner will not need to be present to win, and tickets will be sold until the time of the drawing at 2 p.m.
“When we ask our community to support our local American Veterans Motorcycle Club, we are not asking you to solely support us. We are asking you to support all of the veterans, prior and present, that we strive to honor and defend,” said Carter.
