BN- A McLennan County investigator has obtained a search warrant to extract a bullet from the arm of a biker — killed last week in a wreck — who was wounded in the deadlyMay 17 Twin Peaks shootout but left Waco before he was identified or arrested.

The warrant, issued by 19th State District Judge Ralph Strother, is for a bullet in the arm of James Kenneth “Spaz” Anderson, 53, of Henderson, a member of the Bandidos. Hewas killed Sept. 3 when his motorcycle struck one or more deer on a highway in northwestern Nebraska.

Authorities want the bullet in Anderson’s upper left arm to compare it to weapons seized after nine bikers were killed and 20 were wounded at a meeting of bikers at the Twin Peaks restaurant in Waco.

The warrant was obtained Tuesday by Jason Chambers, an investigator in the McLennan County District Attorney’s Office.

“(Chambers) believes that an analysis of the projectile in (Anderson’s) upper left arm will be beneficial in the investigation and may more accurately identify the weapon used against him during the incident,” according to an affidavit for the search warrant.

The bullet will be submitted to the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which is conducting the forensic analysis of weapons, bullets, bullet fragments and casings recovered at the scene, court records show.

Prosecutor Michael Jarrett declined comment on the search warrant Wednesday. Chambers did not return phone calls seeking comment.

Anderson’s body was taken to Crawford-Crin Funeral Home in Henderson, where the warrant is expected to be served.

Pat Murphy, Crawford-Crin Funeral Home director, said Wednesday he was unaware that a warrant had been issued and had not been contacted by McLennan County authorities. He declined additional comment.

According to the affidavit, Lanie Smith, a Longview police officer, received information that Anderson had been shot May 17 at Twin Peaks.

The officer found him “recuperating” from his wound at a home on County Road 2121 near Longview. Anderson reportedly admitted to Smith that he was shot in the left arm but managed to flee Waco without being identified by police or arrested.

The affidavit does not say when Smith spoke to Anderson. Smith did not return phone messages Wednesday.

Authorities rounded up about 235 bikers after the shootout, jailing 177 on identical engaging in organized criminal activity warrants. None of the bikers remain jailed in McLennan County, and none of the cases has been presented to a grand jury.

Nebraska death

According to published reports, the Nebraska State Patrol reported that Anderson was riding with a group of bikers about 6 a.m. Sept. 3 when he hit at least one deer on U.S. Highway 385 about three miles south of Chadron, Nebraska.

Anderson and the other bikers were heading north when he and two other riders hit deer that had wandered into the roadway, authorities reported.

Richard Smith, 39, of Longview, was treated for minor injuries at Chadron Community Hospital, according to a report in the Chadron Record.

Shane Miles, 43, of Big Spring, was able to stop safely after hitting a deer, according to reports.

Anderson was an electrician at Flanders Electric Motor Services in Henderson, which manufactures industrial motors and generators.

A spokeswoman for the company declined comment about Anderson on Wednesday.

Services for Anderson are set for Saturday at the Rusk County Youth Expo Center in Henderson.

An obituary from the funeral home says he was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Bar None Cowboy Church.
