BIKER NEWS: Engines set to rev again for Darlington biker Jungle

HUNDREDS of bikers are set to take part in a mass ride to the country's highest pub, in memory of a popular character.

BN- HUNDREDS of bikers are set to take part in a mass ride to the country's highest pub, in memory of a popular character.

Bikers will set off from Darlington on Saturday lunchtime, bound for the remote Tan Hill Inn, in Swaledale, North Yorkshire.

It was one of the favourite haunts of Darlington biker Jungle, one of the town's most colourful and enduring characters, who died earlier this year.

He used to enjoy camping – with the groundsheet of his 'tent' attached to his bike – at Tan Hill and carved his name into one of the nearby rocks.

Darlington town centre came to a standstill for his funeral, as hundreds of bikers keen to pay their last respects joined a convoy behind the cortege.

Formerly known as George Pamler, the former Hells Angel's passing in June was followed by an outpouring of respect.

Thousands of pounds have been collected in his name, with the Jungle Fund, administered by Jungle's daughter Nichola Jinks Preston, set up to provide support for deserving causes in Darlington and beyond.

The fund most recently made a donation to an autism charity after Mrs Preston was impressed by the story of a six-year-old Darlington girl, who was recently diagnosed with autism and took part in the Spectrum Run, in South Park, at the weekend.

Bikers will gather in the car park of Morton Park Morrisons on Saturday at 1pm.

Mrs Preston was keen to stress that all are welcome to join the ride, regardless of their chosen mode of transport.

She said: "Cars are welcome too, not just bikes. People can meet at Morton Park at 1pm, or Tan Hill itself, at 3pm, if they are not local to Darlington.

"Most people are spending the night up there camping, but that's optional.

"There will be a live band and a little raffle for the Jungle Fund.

"The main prize is a 7ft handmade Harley wooden piece, made by my Dad.

"Most of the family will be there on Saturday and lots of my Dad's friends."
