BN- That’s the reasoning behind the annual Bean’re bike show behind the Digby General Hospital.
“We take the parade to them,” says biker personality Bean’re. “They call me the Mayor of Fun and I can’t think of anything more fun than making people happy like this.”
It all started about seven years ago when Charlotte Sabean, a recreational therapist at Digby General, organized a visit from a half dozen bikers with a dozen patients from the hospital.
Since then the visit has grown to 50 bikes and three dozen patients and residents from Tideview.
Bean’re has been involved for the last four years, leading the bikers to the unused parking lot behind the hospital.
He makes sure they all park a little farther apart then bikers normally do so everyone can easily get around the bikes.
The patients and residents get a chance to talk with the bikers and get a good close look at the bikes – they also choose a dozen bikes and bikers for special awards like best dressed, most colourful, hottest biker, biggest bike and funniest bike.
After the bike show, Bean’re leads the bikers down Pleasant Street to Tideview Terrace where they make a couple slow noisy laps of the Home for Special Care.
New this year, the bikers also made similar visits on Sept. 2 to homes in Middleton and Bridgetown.
