BN- Ex-undercover cop Wojciech Braszczok surrendered Wednesday to serve a two-year prison sentence stemming from his role in a motorcycle...
Braszczok, sporting a cropped beard, gray sweats and Nike sneakers, was calm as he sat alone at the back of the courtroom waiting to be called before a judge in Manhattan Supreme Court.
The disgraced former NYPD detective — who was off-duty the day of the incident — was convicted in June of assault and riot charges following a high-profile trial.
He and 11 others were indicted, all but one for gang assault, for allegedly pummeling Range Rover driver Alexian Lien after a high speed chase up the West Side Highway in September 2013.
Lien had mowed down and paralyzed a fellow rider, saying he was scared for himself and his family, and the group followed him to an exit on W. 178th St. where he was pulled out of the car and attacked.
At trial, jurors saw video of Braszczok smashing Lien's rear window with his fist and roundhouse kicking the side of the ride, while his wife and baby daughter were inside.
His attorney argued he had no intent to harm Lien or his family. Braszczok testified that he was trying to stop Lien for running down a rider.
Braszczok will likely serve 16 months at Rikers Island.
His attorney, John Arlia, requested Braszczok be sent to "protective custody" in the infirmary housing unit.
Justice Maxwell Wiley said housing would be determined by Department of Correction but said he would make the request on Braszczok's behalf.
