BN- I would like to make bikers and pedestrians more aware of the etiquette of shared pathways. As bikers, you need to be aware that not all pedestrians can hear your bell as you prepare to pass. The biker on our stroll yelled at us "What's the matter, are you deaf?" As a matter of fact, we are severely hearing impaired. On our part, we were apparently not over far enough on the right for a group to pass. A sudden stop led a young boy to fall off his bike. Lessons to be learned by everyone.
As bikers, it is imperative that you know that the pedestrians are aware of your presence before passing. In order to pass safely, in addition to the bell, a strong voice signalling "Passing to your left" would be helpful. Slowing down is also a wise thing to do if it appears the pedestrians are not aware of you. As pedestrians, try and remain conscious of sticking to the right, as a collision with a bike never has a good outcome.
With these reminders we hope that all of us can have happy outings.
