Friends and family of Dane Curran are to ride out in tribute to the 21-year-old.
The popular youth worker and photographer, from Chapel Park in Newcastle, died following a crash on the M11 in Cambridgeshire at the weekend.
And now, amid a huge outpouring of shock and grief, his fellow motorcyclists are to gather in his memory, heading from North Shields to Holy Island and then South to a restaurant on the A19.
“Dane was a good friend and the kind of guy that if he didn’t know you he’d still stand and have a good old chat about bikes or photography,” said Danes OK Diner Bike Night organiser Josh Carr, from Hexham.
“Dane wanted to set up a bike night at the OK Diner on the A19. So starting at the Earl of Zetland on Sunday morning, if anyone is game for it, we’ll ride up to Holy Island, across the causeway, create a bit of a biker presence on the island and then head down to the OK Diner for around 4pm.
“If you can’t make the ride feel free to join in on the way or even meet us at the OK. The idea is to get as many bikes as possible no matter how big or small make or model - hey, even if your in the car pop by.
“Let’s make Dane proud.”
Nicola Braithwaite, manager of the Elwick OK Diner, said she was pleased to welcome the riders.
She added: “We are more than happy to help out. I am told that Dane used to come in regularly and while I didn’t know him personally, we are obviously happy to welcome his friends and family.”
Hundreds of people have posted their own tributes to Dane, originally from Allendale in Northumberland, online.
And sister Zoe Luther posted on the former Queen Elizabeth High School pupil’s Facebook profile to say that the messages were appreciated.
“I want to thank each and everyone of you for your comments and photos for my beautiful brother Dane,” she said.
“Hearing how he touched all of your lives is like hearing from him again and it means so much.
“We’re all so very proud of everything that Dane is and the difference he has made to the world.
“Dane was not only my brother but my best friend and work colleague and I feel like the richest person in the world to have known all elements of his life.
“There was never a day that went by when Dane wasn’t smiling or laughing his infectious laugh and both of these will live on forever, in all of our hearts.”
